Scrolling lyrics insidePro Tools

Pro Tools is still the standard in commercial vocal rooms, where studio time is billed by the hour. Cutting even ten minutes of “where are we again?” from every song is real money. LyricsRunnerVST scrolls the lyric sheet in sync with the Pro Tools timeline so the take keeps moving.

Install it in Pro Tools

Plugin folder: Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3 — macOS: /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3

  1. 1Install LyricsRunnerVST to the system VST3 folder.
  2. 2Make sure you are on a recent Pro Tools version that loads VST3 plugins.
  3. 3Restart Pro Tools so it picks up the new plugin on scan.
  4. 4Insert LyricsRunnerVST on a track from the plugin list.

Good to know

  • Recent Pro Tools versions load VST3 plugins, so LyricsRunnerVST installs like any other plugin — no wrapper needed.
  • Because it never touches audio, it is safe to leave on a session template in professional rooms.
  • Tested on Windows and macOS.
Works on a second monitor, a TV or a tablet used as a display.

The Pro Tools vocal-recording workflow

Step 1

Insert on the vocal or a utility track

Many engineers keep it on a dedicated “Prompter” track so the vocal chain stays untouched and recallable.

Step 2

Paste the lyrics before the singer arrives

Prep during setup: paste the sheet, set the start marker, choose a large high-contrast font.

Step 3

Talkback less, record more

The singer reads the next line instead of asking. That is where the 10–15 minutes per song comes from.

Step 4

Send the window to the live room

Undock and place the window on the display facing the booth.
